A pénzügyi eszközök (részvények, forex stb.) esetében a spread az eladási és a vételi ár közötti árkülönbségre utal. A spread a tranzakciós költségek egy típusa, a jutalékokkal együtt, amennyiben vannak ilyenek. A spread miatt minden kereskedés veszteséggel kezdődik, mert eladási áron vásárol és vételi áron ad el.
Példa az EUR/USD spreadre:
